(By “paintings by Goya” we actually specifically mean this one, where the giant/god is cannibalising someone.)īut after devouring the trailer you may be left with some questions. Visually speaking, it’s bold, horrifying, strangely beautiful, and unlike anything we’ve seen before – although we think some of the imagery itself has same nightmarish quality as Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 Biblical fantasy film Noah, or of paintings by the visionary Spanish Romantic artist Goya. And it could be the most original fantasy film you’ll see all year – if you live in Japan. Explosions, tumbling buildings, and a ragtag human military desperately preparing for battle. A post-apocalyptic civilization surrounded by towering walls. It’s got monstrous, 120-foot man-eating giants.
